Polly Chase was born in what was once rural Long Island, New York. She studied art at Hofstra University and Stonybrook University on Long Island and at the Art Student League in Manhattan, New York. Her strong interests were in life illustration, anatomy, and art history. Her art education is a continuing process as she absorbs from nature, traveling our country and from the constant research in our museums of art and natural history. I think the best way to describe Polly’s work would be to watch an art lover see her work for the first time. They look at the work and then are immediately drawn in as if by a strong magnet. They find the work intriguing for design and then the eye is attracted by the detail of the subject and sensitivity of its rendition. The feeling of being pulled in is accomplished by having a wealth of interlacing line and detail that never seems to end. You could almost describe it as artistic vertigo. Most of Polly Chase’s expression in art is linear in rendition which has found full fruition in lithography and intaglio. She is a master at both graphic mediums, but she is always looking to expand her techniques. Her subject matter covers a wide range from nature scenes, animals and birds, to nostalgic city scenes.
